Chef Competition

For the second time, the Slovene Association of Chefs and Confectioners organises pre-selections for WASC (World Association of Chefs Societies) members from Southern Europe to enter the Global Chef Challenge (GCC) finals, which will take place in 2012 in South Korea within the framework of the WASC World Congress.
At the same time, the Hans Bueschkens Junior Chef Challenge, a competition for young chefs aged 23 years or under, will take place for the first time in the form of pre-selections.

»Creativity from under the fingers of master chefs knows no limits, while the inventiveness and preparation of dishes is constantly changing over the years. Perhaps unusual, but just like in fashion, there are certain trends applied to the preparation of food, positioning of the food on the plate, the combination of flavours and colours.
To admire the experts, the master chefs, from the countries of Southern Europe, all originating from the Mediterranean space, will be a lesson to all – the professionals, students and pupils. The same ingredients for all teams, i.e. Kobe beef, white sole, and strawberries, will demand limitless creativity and inventiveness in preparation and serving of food from the participants each day of the Show. We will be able to watch what all can be prepared and what the chefs will prepare through all 4 days of the Challenge. And believe me, there will be lots of new and interesting things to see – perhaps, for us, even unusual.«

Srečko Koklič, Regional Director of the World Association of Chefs

The project was supported by Tourism and Hospitality Chamber of Slovenia, GR – Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, Slovenian Tourist Board and the City of Ljubljana.

The following countries already submitted their applications: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey.

The two competitions are mutually connected as the countries could apply a chef to compete at the GCC as well as an assistant chef under 23 years of age to compete in the challenge for young chefs.

The Rules and Regulations for participation in the competition are highly complex. Active members of Slovene Association of Chefs and Confectioners are well aware of the extensive preparations and demanding execution of the competition, which is extremely important for the promotion of Slovenia and its varied culinary tradition across the world.
